The Iloilo State College of Fisheries (ISCOF) system headed by SUC President II Dr. Godelyn Hisole organized a Bayanihan initiative composed of 100 volunteers from faculty and staff who began producing face shields and PPE gowns, hoods and shoe covers on March 30 throughout the System’s five campuses.
The initiative is a brainchild of the College President and is financially supported by the public servants from the City and Province of Iloilo, the faculty, staff and alumni of ISCOF, their family members and their friends.
Some donors donated in kind, like fabric and other pertinent materials, while other volunteered to either sew or construct the face shields, several take care of logistics like the transportation and food of the volunteers.
The community in Brgy. Tiwi, Barotac Nuevo, to which ISCOF Main Campus belongs, also extends security services.
“We target around 5,000 units of complete PPE sets to be distributed in identified hospitals, with the Western Visayas Regional Medical Center as priority because it is the main hospital treating COVID-19 patients in Region 6 at the moment,” said Dr. Hisole.
The ISCOF Bayanihan initiative, which is expected to run for at least two more weeks, has produced around 500 PPE sets as of press time.
