According to a 2017 report of the United Nations Fund for Population Activities (now the United Nations Population Fund), the Philippines has the third-highest adolescent birth rate among 11 Southeast Asian nations (Business Mirror, 30 April 2019).
On the other hand, despite that we have a declining teenage pregnancy cases here in Iloilo, as reported by the Provincial Population Office in 2018, there is still a need to strengthen our education campaigns for responsible parenthood and safe sex (Panay News, 5 October 2019).
In view of this and pursuant to CMO No. 15 series of 2015 that mandates to mainstream gender and development in higher education institutions, the College Supreme Student Council and Gender and Development Office of ISCOF Main Campus conducted KasaGAD 2020: Students’ Wellness Day and GAD Forum, with a theme “GAD is Love” last 28 February 2020 (Friday) at ISCOF Main Campus Gym.
A lecture-forum on teenage pregnancy was delivered in the morning by Dr. Jonel P. Lañada, Faculty of Sociology and Political Science at West Visayas State University College of Arts and Sciences.
Later in the afternoon, various contests were participated in by ISCOF Main students: spoken word poetry on gender and development issues, vocal solo, vocal duet, and love dance.
Various accredited student organizations also joined the event through their exhibits and photo booths.
